Metronidiazol?

How much Meroniidizol should I use in a clam fw dip mix. I have been fighting PM on a Crocea for 6 months. He has been fw dipped at least 7 times (must be a fighter). Then he looks great for a couple of weeks and then starts to show symptoms again. I wondered how much metronidiazol to use in a 2 gal FW mix?? Any other ideas??

Aren you running carbon in your main tank? This should help. I am not sure of metronidazole dosage for baths, but if the FW dip cures it, but then it reoccurs after reintroduction to the tank, your tank is reinfecting it.

i tried Metro, Prazepro neither worked for me. let me dig through some old threads and see the dose everyone was using

I don't know how I would be reintroding a protozoan to the tank after a fw dip?? I believe that not all the protozoans are dying during the dip. I run carbon 24/7 and have not seen a significant increase in the duration between dips. Maybe something else will cure it. Barry at clams direct has never dipped a clam more than 3x, so maybe I'm just missing something.

jbit- I am not saying you are reintroducing- I am saying it is still existing in your tank (which I assume is not being treated). Do you have any other clams currently in that tank? I am not as familiar with PM as others here, but I believe they have said the best TANK treatment is running fresh carbon continuously. If you're already doing this- I'm afraid I cant offer any other suggestions- good luck.

Thanks, Maybe the PM is getting more resistant to the FWD. I used short baths to start then increased them to 30 min (doesn't seem to do the trick anymore). The clam is beautiful, this sucks.

look up the moetro doasge on the link that mbbuna gave- and give it a shot. metrodiazonale is a good broad spectrum anti-protozoan, so it may be enough to knock it out.

we were using it in QT's, i would not do it in your tank. go get a little 10g and a sponge filter and what every light you can fit over it. then do 5g water changes everyday.

Barry N had success with just FWD's but he would constantly shake the clams while they were in the dip or constantly squirt water from a turkey baster along the shell edge. i can see how this would be better then just placing them in the FW. protozoa are very small and clams have a thick mucus that could shield the protozoa from the FW. by squirting the water you may force it into the mucus

Well he is currently takking his longest FWD ever. It has been 30 min but I might push it to 45 this time. Hope this gets it.
