I have read the string on red cotton algae, and people have reported that Mexican Turbo Snails eat this stuff. I have a Turbo snail that looks very similar to the pics of the Mexican Turbo's I have seen, but this snail won't touch the red algae opting for green film algae on the glass and rock. Is there a way that you can visually tell the difference between a Mexican Turbo and a non-Mexican Turbo. My LFS salesperson kind of looked at me like I was nuts when I asked the question. I was hoping to acquire a few specimens from LFS in my area, and don't want to end up with the same thing I already have. This red algae is a real pain. New lamps, frequent water changes, phosphate reactor, aggressive skimming, and manual removal (siphoning) do not seem to have much effect on this stuff. I have been dealing with this stuff for about 14 months. Just when you think it is subsiding, the cycle starts again. If the Mexican Turbo is the magic, I have to get some!
