What do you all keep it at?
I have heard 1500 ppm is suggested.
Mine is at 1270-1290 and my lps seem not too happy.
They were when i dosed it up to 1470.
TIA
I am off to get some MG addatives

NSW is somewhere around 1300 ( 1270 -1320 ). elevating your mg may actually cause a precipatation event. I would try to replicate the ocean, as near as perfection as we currently can find.

I take that back. It will not cause a precipitation event, but raising it that high will require a bunch of supplement which may introduce a number of impurities into the tank and in rather large quantities.

When my mag levels dropped my echinos started receding and my leptos melted away. Since getting it up more the recession has stopped

Well i am raising mine up to 1400 and see where that takes me, Yes that is alot of additive, But i have dolomite to add to my ca/rx to keep it there once i do.
It may be a little too much to add, But i will see how safely i could raise it without making the alk too high. 20ppm of mg = 1dkh of alk with dolomite. I have no problem with bringing my alk up to 12dkh.
Someone that i respect in this hobby has theirs (MG)at 1500 and reccomends it.

Creetin, your MG is fine, I strongly believe that is not the reason for your LPS being unhappy. 10dkh is great and a calcium of 420 - 430 is more then enough.

Creetin,
Just keep and eye on your Alk.Don't know if you have any Chalice or Enchinos. But was talking to Tubs awhile back.He mentioned that some of this new stuff that's coming in,Don't like a high Alk.Both of these frags that I had melted away.Just don't want you to fix one problem, and have fall out on another.Just be on the look out.I still don't know why I lost mine. Some say low nutrient system with the SPS corals.Where these new ones, like the sewer type of tank conditions.I just find it hard keeping SPS corals and certain LPS now a days.Especially since going BB.

This was what the person stated to me is thatthey kept it at.
Now this person has alot of acans and micros, and has had them for a while. Dunno what the benefits are, But it works for that person.
I'll stop at 1350 and see where that goes, Currntly its 1270-1280

I would do it slowly. My acros can and have in the past tolerated tank temps of 85 degrees, pre chiller. But for brief periods and after a slow steady rise. Not sure that means I want to throw some heaters in and quickly get it up to 85 and then keep it there for long periods. But maybe you are onto something and will come back telling us amazing results. It has happened in this hobby before, so I am certainly interested in your results ( just glad its your tank not mine ).

Creetin I think raising it to 1350 would be good if you already have it at 1280, just do it slowly. Watch alk during the raise. I noticed with a drop in mag that you can see receding in echinos, micros, lords and other lps.

Awhile back, I had a large drop in mag and it caused a lot of my lps to react in a negative way. It took some time to get it back up but they all recovered and seem to be happy with high amounts of mag (around 1420-1460).

Thanks for the tip i'll go slow. I'll wait a few days to add more.
I used kents tech M so i wouldnt get a ph or alk spike.
Good stuff.
They already look happier than yesterday. My ca/rx will keep it there so atleast its not going down anymore.
