Just curious how high people are keeping their bulbs off the water. I am think I have mine a little close so I am trying to get a consensus. My tank is mostly SPS so I am looking for the SPS-aholics answers.

I have mine about 5" and I am having trouble with stuff keeping its color. It is a 400w and I am thinking that I have it to close. I made the canopy and there isnt enough room to raise the bulb so I am going to make another one this week and try it out. I am going to shoot for having the bulb 8"-10" off the surface of the water and I will see if my hunch is correct. Everything else as far as testing has checked out. I think I am just having to much concetrated light.

6-7" 175w Iwasaki Aqua2/Luminarc mini. I am not sure if this is where i will keep it. My tank is only 12" deep and everything is in the lower half and keeps good color, but a couple of my bottlebrushes look like they are not getting enough light in all areas. they might just need a bit more time though so I am waiting it out for now.

I have 2 250W HQIs and 5 x 55w PC. and my tank is 24 inches deep. I also don't know how high to keep them off the water, I run an open top, and mine are currently 8.75 inches off the water, I raised them a couple of inches today, because someone told me they should be ten inches at least???

I am keeping anemones, SPS, and clams, I too would love some input on this subject????

Three 400 watt metal halides in luminarc reflectors . They are 16 inches above a 180 gal SPS tank . Lighting period 8 hours.
