I went to 7 or 8 stores while I was down there. They were "wiped out" as far as livestock they claimed because of the holiday, they dont order much. However what they consider "wiped out" is still a ton more corals and fish than in colorado. I found 3-4 stores that were incredible. I got some great deals on ricordea florida (go figure) I wrapped them in wet newspaper at the airport in the bathroom. I took in the bagged rics and dumped out the excess water then squeezed out the air and re-sealed the bags so I could carry them on. It was close to 50 hours from bagging at the LFS to going into my tank. That worked great and they are open and doing well

The prices were close to ours maybe a bit cheaper (probably due to volume)
The one thing everybody has cheap it hermits and astreas, hundreds in a tank for 50¢ each. and some were large. I didn't see any rare or LE type corals, the same old usual stuff. They do sell urchins for $3-$5 also. Some of the tanks were really unique designs and they use a lot of marble, or fake stone stuff to face the tank stand and canopy, some looked really nice, I should have taken pics:rolleye1:

All in all a great place to shop for stuff if you ever go there, i have been to LFS in other parts of the country and these guys had the best overall by far. For lots of Corals and the biggest selection though I'd still say Keys Island in Denver is tough to beat.

And as far as price goes Exotic Tropicals in Colorado Springs is hard to beat.

BTW one store had a large piece of tonga branch maybe 24" long by a foot tall covered in green star polyps for $800! I wonder if they will actually sell it!
And they sell pulsing xenia for a ton of money, all that was in stock said "sold" on the tank. I guess their market has'nt been flooded with PX like ours.

Chris,

What was the place we went with the SPS all arranged between the lines and had the prices marked so well? I'd put them up there with Keys.

Well Mr. 125 (LMAO) glad you scooped up that title before someone else did ;) We went to premier fish and reef, they have corals priced by row, with pvc dividing the rows. Very nice way of keeping it organised. I saw a similiar idea in Miami at several stores. They had maybe 3 0r 4 shelfs made from white light diffuser plastic grid stuff. It was priced by the row, ex: row 1 $40 row 2 $50 e.t.c.
Yeah I'd agree Premier is awesome, for all around store they get my vote, I love the fact that he Quarantines the fish for a couple weeks before selling, thats hard to find (especially with a fair priced fish) And they have the largest selection of equipment and dry goods around.
Chris

Premier, that's it.

The SPS I got on that trip are doing great. Those little green SPS are already growing. That rainbow stylo (or was it a pah-si-LAH-per-uh) is still green and purple-tipped. That big pink pocillopora is even more pink now.

Hey, do you want a really big piece or two of that green monti cap? You need something in your big empty tank. I still have that scroll set aside for you.

my tank is pretty full now actually, considering the growth they will have. i have a piece of the monti already but thanks though. And you could bring the scroll with you to the meet if you want.
That guy we met at Premier that had the interesting pronunciation of coral names is a speaker at the mini conference in denver in Feb.

Yeah I thought about it, and in keeping with most the folks in the "large reef tank" forum I am adding all my water and calling it a "900 gallon system" I am adding up the tank 600
the sump 150
the mixing reservior 100
the skimmer volume 10
the phos reactor volume 1
the calcium reactor volume 4
the water in all the piping 10

and calling myself Mr. 875 it has a nice ring to it, hell We'll just round it up to Mr. 900 there we go ;)

And if Mr700 includes his total volume?

This reminds me of an old Monty Python skit. "Six feet four?! Damn you!"

True, I could run a line through the koi pond to use as a passive chiller, then consider that 4,000 gallons as part of the volume?

And Dan, I think Mr. 700 lists his "system volume" or "total gallons" at 673 so maybe its only a 55 gallon tank with a 600 gallon sump? you never know these days
