Can someone tell me what these things are? They look like the aliens that serve coffee in MIB lol

There are 2 things that squirt spiderwebs in my tank. One is vermatids. The other is this strange tube worm that lives in the muddle of my sunset monti colony. Weird as hell!

Well thanks for the id guys. Now are these things bad?

I do have some weird tube worms living in the middle of my monti's

It is the browm tube worms that put out the mucus. It will irritate the corals. If irritated enough it will kill the corals. Try cutting them out. Also the worm will draw down into the shell so be sure to get it. So when you see the mucos just follow the trail.

Is super gluing the opening of the tube enough? Mine has shifted around my colony a little, and kills some of it in the process, but the area is so small it grows back right away.

I have read about others doing it and I don't see why it wouldn't work. I have never put a tube of super glue in the tank. I need to get some $1.00 tubes and try it. I use ic gel super glue so I don't want to put it in the tank. Afraid it might clog up, but not sure if it will.

If your rocks were covered in vermetid snails, and you were going to upgrade to a bigger tank, would you use the same rock or start over from scratch? Keep in mind some rocks have a lot of zoa and sps encrusting. Sorry for the hijack.

I would take them off of the zoa rocks. If there are also other rocks which don't have to many on, I would clean them also all off and put back in tank. You have to make sure you get them all. Depending on how many are on there it can be time consuming.

Something else you can do is take a rock (with no zoas) out of the tank every 4-6 days (you are trying to avoid a mini cycle) and get most of the biggest ones off then put it in a bucket/tub and start to cook it. Do this until you get them all out and cooking. You will have to leave some rock in the tank so you will need to clean some also. You don't want all of your rock out at the same time.

This is what I would do, but others might not have the time to do it this way.

Do you have a lot of rock in the tank?

Yes I have a lot of rock. The vermitid snails love montipora for some reason and will burrow their way through from the bottom up. If and when I do an upgrade I will probably just start over from scratch.
