everything in tank looks great but my zoes covering 2 big rocks. (not one open) my pars are all good but nitrates are at 20 is this the cause? got mushrooms ,candy canes, 2 anemones, hammerhead, lots of frags everything else looks great. wondering is there a fish that only picks on zoes( got yellow tang ,wrase, file fish, clowns , 2 diffrent angels, 2 diffrent gobys in 140 gallon) any help would be great thx

i have been watching them everyday . seen a little bug on one of the frag sunday night but only one, dont know if it was bad or not.its been week since they have opened theres a good 50 zoes i would say all closed up.

I had Zoas that were closing and disappearing. I couldnt find anything on them for months. Then one day I saw one of my little asternia starfish on them. Some research told me that they will eat Zoas. I bought a Harlequin shrimp and set him loose. These shrimp eat starfish and nudibranches. It's been over a month and now my Zoas are starting to open up again, the few that are left. The shrimp has been having a hay day with the little asternia starfish. The down side of it is that I have to keep other starfish in there for him to eat now. They like the sand sifting starfish. I'll probably give him away soon, because I feel too bad feeding him starfish.

so i see little bugs running around on them , reading and reading still cant till what kind. do i take the zoes out and dip them in something? then when i put them back in tank wont bugs come right back? got 140 tank do i have to treat the whole tank? only seems to effect the zoes

I had little bugs on my zoas. Real little, lost my zoas. Left the tank zoa empty for a few weeks to make sure they were all dead... Maybe coral dip then quarantine to make sure they won't be living inthe display when you place them back

Before we jump to answer, what kinda of pest (bug) is running around on your zoas? Are they copepods or nudibranchs or ??? I had the same problem. In one case it ended up being nudis (what a pain in the *&^), the other turned out to be a sundial snail.

sorry they look like little beetles. They are way to small to get picture, so i put them in my sump couple days ago they starting to open up my green and red ones why? makes me wonder if it was a fish picking on them?
