Mini protien skimmer issues

Hello, everyone I just purchased the aquaticlife mini protein skimmer 115. I have had it set up for a few days now and the cup just keeps filling up. I have turned the water flow down but the bubbles just keep going up and over and filling the cup up. Has anyone had issues like this?

It could be several things. If the water level outside the skimmer is too high, it will never work properly. Try raising the skimmer or lowering the water level than dial it in from there.

More information would be helpful. How is it set up? Is this in a Boicube, a sump, or something else?

You need to pull it out of the water. I find it works best when the bubbles are just at the start of the neck where the cone starts. Just pull it up out of the water some.

Now video of clownfish lol

Is that a 29 gallon? I have an extra hob filter may try a setup like that if I can figure out to hide from wife

You might also want to look up the mod for the air intake. with the plastic elbo on the case, it end up sucking water and gurgles horribly.

Its very simple. Take it apart(separate the 2 halves) carefully snap off the plastic elbow the airline is attached to, then simply use a longer piece of tubing.

It actually is still doing the same thing and i have it really pulled up. uploadfromtaptalk1450129841484.jpg

Clear water, make sure the air intake isn't plugged with something. Although from the bubbles it doesn't look like it is.

Hmm.... did you take it apart by any chance? I think that happens if the intake part is backwards on the motor. The open end should be the small slit that faces the front of the plastic housing.

I did open it but i put everything back the way it was. I just dont get it. It fills up within 5 minutes. Ive tried eveything, lifting up, tried changing the water flow over and over. Its like it working too good. The bubbles just keep coming, ive even stuck my finger in the cone center and all the bubbles went way down but in like 2 min they all come back again. Im thinking maybe i need to return this unless you have another suggestion.

I find with my skimmer it will bubble over that after a water change, I leave it off for a couple of hours it's usually fine after that although mine is nothing like yours (octopus 150) could the water outlet be restricted in some way? Keep in mind I'm not at all familiar with those skimmers, air inlet could be blocked too but you have a lot of bubbles so it wouldn't be that, I see you raised the whole skimmer right up so I don't think it's that either, I tend to think it could be the water outlet, when I first set up my fist tank it came with a terrible skimmer, from the factory all of those skimmers came with the water outlets being restricted (I found out the hard way) it was a piece of tube being pushed into the elbows too far and causing it to be partially blocked, http://youtu.be/3H2Jy7rgjl4 that link is exactly what I had and will also explain what I'm talking about, I hope that helps you out, good luck

Agreed. If they allow it, I would just return this and get a different one. No point having a skimmer that u need to empty 10x a day.

Thank you very much for this! I think I have this figured out. I did what the video said but in respect to my skimmer. The bubbles definitely got better and now its just a process to figure out the right hieght and water level! Thank you so much to eveyone who took the time to respond to me!
