Minimum size for SPS growout tank

What would be the smallest size you'd feel comfortable growing with? I was thinking around 100 gallons, with little to no livestock.

You want livestock. If you have to sterile of a tank the corals won't color up. They like some nutrients. There's some pretty nice threads with smaller tanks that look great however big tanks are nice to have for stability...just cost a lot. Good luck and reef on [emoji106]

I should have been clearer. I was thinking a wrasse and tang for maintenance, but focusing on coral.

How big is your system? How much do you want to grow out? Budget? For my scale I'd do a 40 BR. The deep blue 60 or 80 would make an awesome grow out frag tank on a larger scale.

Whilst I know SPS can be done in a smaller volume I am interested in hearing what most people would be the smallest system volume they'd be happy with to ensure the stability that SPS require.

I had a 44 gallon frag tank plumbed into the system for my 225 display. There are a lot of variables in play but more volume will provide more stability.

I would tie it into my display so I did not have to duplicate equipment. I have a 20 tied into my 60 now. Not sure if I am going to keep it when I upgrade. I may take it down and add a 40 breeder down the road.

I agree! I started again a 120 and am now adding another 60 gallon tied into the main system. As long as your skimmer can handle the extra load that's what I would do.
