Minor tragedy today. Overflow of death!

When I woke up this morning I saw that my Flasher Wrasse didn't come out to eat. This was a first. I checked everywhere in the tank and didn't see him. I checked the fuge and didn't see him in there. I hung out for a little while then had to check again and found him. He had gotten trapped in the back overflow box. The nozzle in the picture, which had to be turned at a 45 deg angle to the wall to get him out, then it was turned to face the wall in back and only left a half inch of space between the end of the white PVC and the back wall. It turns out his head is just larger than that opening and he got stuck, he was trapped just below the V looking writing... He was dead. Sucked. Quite literally. :sad1:

Sorry to hear about your loss, I lost two flashers last summer ;=(. I put egg crate to keep the critters out of the over flow, it works most of the time.

Can you post a pic? I'm having a tough timg visualizing what you would do other than zip ties or something.

Where can you get eggcrate panels? HD or Lowe's?

the "eggcrate" is in the lighting department at any of the big box home improvement stores. it is actually a light diffuser panel for overhead flourescent lighting. comes in 2' x 4' panels. it still has openings of about 3/4" square. For a finer grid look for the plastic gutter guard...comes in rolls about 6" wide.

Yeah. My condolences. My flasher made a jump for it night before last while I was working in the tank. Luckily he landed on the glass top right next to me and I could scoop him up and toss him back in. He's fine now, but scared the wits out of me.

don't have any pix but i just cut it so that it is slightly larger than the overflow and set it on top. the water flows thru the egg crate and keeps the bigger critters out.
