Miracle Mud smells like manure?

I've had success years ago with a CPR hang on w/Miracle Mud added so I thought I would add some to my new reef tank set up. The smell is terrible. It smells like manure. If it smells like that I'm worried I'm adding a bunch of nutrients to my new tank. Thoughts?

Contaminated maybe. It is terrestrial soil.
