Mixing Saltwater

Just a thought/question. Does it make a difference if you add salt to water or water to salt when mixing up your saltwater? I think I generally add salt to water when I mix. I have read some postings where it affects Cal and ALK levels

hmmm.... i always put salt then water and never had any problems.

I think its better to add the salt to the water. If you add water to salt you risk a chance of the salt caking and calcium will precipitate out of the mix and turn your container white. If you have white residue on your container chances are you hvae a lesser calcium value.

I have a 45 gal rubbermaid trash can I have been mixing in for years. I almost always add salt to water, then if I need to dilute a bit I add more water. I keep a heater and powerhead in there and by the next day it self-mixes (no salt left on the bottom save a bit of white precip). My can has always had white precip forming in it, but not a whole lot. I always add CA to my system anyway so does it really matter or is this a minor detail?
