MJ mod workshop?

What do you think about doing a Maxi-stream mod workshop? I've been wanting to make a couple of these for a while now but I'm not a good DIYer. I can bring some of the parts for community use like the glue and the PVC. Anyone want to organize it? Here is a great thread on the mod.

When would you want to do a workshop?

Maybe get an idea of how many people are interested, and do a group buy of all the supplies in advance?

Towards the end of August, or beginning of September? August 12th is already taken.

I suggest we decide on a style of mod and order a complete set of parts for one mod, including the strainer (?), so that we have an almost finished product. I would actually almost suggest we just buy the parts instead of making any of them ourselves. Does that make sense?

I'd made one that came out pretty good. I'll help if the meeting is on a day I can make it. I bought the shroud and cap from mjmods.com, but did the impeller myself

IMO, the hardest part of the mod is the cap. The rest is pretty easy. I done couple but I still don't like them very much. I haven't have time to play with it. I'm sure if I do couple more it will be a piece of cake.
The workshop would be great. We can share our design ..
We have plan for August already. What about the one after that or maybe we can have on in Sept ..

You can buy practically everything you need for this at http://mjmods.com They even put together kist with all the parts needed.

One word of advice though, if you're using a MJ900 pump or smaller, don't use the Octura 2035 propeller as it has really aggressive pitch and your pump might not be able to spin it properly.

If you want LOTS of flow use a 3004 Dumas (1.75" diameter) - 2000+ gph easily. Else just use the 1435 Octura (bag tested around 1300-1500 gph or so)

Yah, I could go for a Sept DIY workshop. And yep, get all the parts as a kit, so we can just do assembly and everything'll go quick. Those that are teh haerdkore can check it all out and go home and make parts if they want.

How about Saturday, Sept 9th? That would be a regular meeting date if we were on the monthly schedule.

Head count for Sept, and figure out how many kits to order?

I'd like to as well, but Sept is MACNA month and I can't do anything extra. Randy is flying around the world that month for aquaculture trade shows and I have to not only get ready for MACNA, I have to help run the front office

I'm in but I will bring my own stuff since I bought a bunch of stuff already. If I get better doing it, I can make some of the stuff for you guys. I came up with the new design for the shroud. I will take pic and post later on to see if you guys like the design.

Ummm, September. I gotta go to MACNA too. But don't let that stop this from happening if lots still want to do it in September - I'll just beg someone to put one together for me!
