MJ Mod

I was thinking about installing one of the MJ 1200 Mods High Flow in my 80g, which I believe is 48X18X22. Do any of you know if this would be too much flow for my tank? Would this start shifting my sandbed? i believe with the mod, the flow is upgraded to about 2500GPH.

Thought it was a liitle too much for my 150 (72x20x24) so I've got 2 standard MJ 1200's in both top corners now. MJ's on a wavemaker with my returns coming off the center overflow provide plenty of current now. If it were'nt for having sand it might have worked for me...

i put one of these in my 75 gallon.....lol,it will shift sand unless you adjust its direction of flow and counter flow with other powerheads just right.but i think ive managed to get it almost there,it does move a little bit of sand,but thats not a bad thing(my opinion)

for the price of a MJ and the mod kit, you could just get yourself a hydor korallia.

Here is a pic of my flow pattern in the same size tank. One modded MJ with the Dumas 3004 prop, a closed loop with a Quiet One 4000 pump pushing about 1000 GPH and about 500 GPH flow back from the sump. The MJ has been running sine July 06. I never turn it off. I think the flow is great and doesn’t blow any sand around. You can see more pictures by clicking the red house.
