I just got two mall pieces of Monti cap the reefer I got them from broke the pieces off right there for me his months were healthy and beautiful now I see black specs on them I did a freshwater dip on them both great weekend things in the water but it also came from the rock to as I glued them on rock they have great color look healthy will these black things cause any harm? What should I be dipping them in to get rid of them?

I would love to but have to use a magnifying glass to see them my cameras macro won't even pick them up when I Google this it seems to be something some montis get I don't see them moving about the coral but when I dipped it some came off using a stick cannot get them off so don't know if it is a bug or something montis do

Well that did not go over well. Freshwater dip with RO water not a good thing. My green Monti looks dead this morning a brown color, the other one had slime coming from it this morning but looks in better shape.

Lesson learned do more checking before listening to one person.

Don't know if it will come back or not, the black specks are still on the one but very slightly. Should have left well enough alone till I seen problems with the corals.

They were free pieces but still I hate killing any type of coral. Dam

Would anyone know what these black specks could be?

I don't know what they might be - a pic would help. I know it is too late bu I wouldn't do a freshwater dip on corals. I prefer to do a bayer insecticide dip (or coral Rx or something along those lines) to kill "nasties". Good luck with them
