Anyone have any ideas of what is causing this damage to my Monti Cap? Any help would be appreciated.

As far as i know Monti's do this because they are not getting any light underneath so it should be fine.

Would increased lighting help then or maybe thining out the upper, inner cups? It started with 1 spot about a month ago and has progressed to its current stage.

I wouldn't worry about those unless they seem to be a rapidly progressing infection of some sort. Mine gets those from time to time but overgrows them in a month or two. Damage on the top and growing points around the rim is what you need to look out for.

But I seem to have developed more over the last month. I am concerned that it may be AEFW or other pest, though this is the only coral affected.

No responses in SPS forums.

is this happening on the top or inside of the monti as well as underneath? if that were the case then you'd have a problem.

My monti's grow very fast and from time to time, as mentioned above, small patches die off on the underside, presumably because a lack of light and probably also because the coral is devoting resources to growth areas with better light exposure; this happens with plants as they grow upward, and both are photosynthetic.
