montipora and light

I have my montipora frag high in my 125g tank just under a 175w MH. Is it too high? It looks like it is loosing color?

I have few right under 250w MH and they are doing fine. You just have to acclimate your frag to your tanks light condition from low to high. So in your case you can move the frag down to help with acclimation. Then you can slowly put it back on the top. Alternative - live as it is. This coral is hardy and most likely it will survive and regain its color.

OK, its been in this spot now for about a week, and is still extending its polyps. Its just loosing color around its polyps.

Did you acclimate it to your light? If its losing color its possible it might be bleaching out. I also have a bunch under a 250w halide, but that doesnt mean it cant bleach under a 175w

I had it about 4" off the bottom of the tank for about 3 days or slow. Then brought it up to where it is now, about 13" from the bulb.

Should I move it lower for a couple of days? And see if its color comes back?
