I recently had some nitrate issues and lost two monti's. My nitrate was over 20. I was told that 5-10 would be good for montipora. I've got mine down to around 10 now with a large water change.
I agree totally. I had a monti cap in nitrates up to the 30's until my tank sort of crashed from laziness and everything. But 5-10 is no problem at all IMO.
never had a problem with montipora growth in the presents of nitrates. despite good growth, only when my nitrates and phosphates are zero do my digitatas and encrusting montis color up! any sighn of nitrates and these corals turn brown.
