Montipora plating or encrusting?

I bought a red monti about a month ago and was wondering how to tell if it is encrusting or plating. It is mounted on an small rock and has grown off without any support. This makes me think it is plating, however, it seems like it is growing down (this is how it was in the store). It also has very tiny polyps mabey 1mm and are spaced far apart on the coral they are not clustered together. Is this typical of plating varieties? It also has a pretty smooth surface without to many rough/ bumpy areas. If anyone knows how to tell let me know.

Based on my humble opinion and exp with montis,i almost consider them to be pests
So if you have the space,try to place them on separate rocks/islands so controlling them will be easier.
They can shade sps or even kill them during the battle for space.Especially the encrusting ones.
