Montis not doing good

I got several frags about a month ago, the acropora are doing well, but the montis are fading and slowly dying. My alk is 7.5-8, phosphate.03-05, nitrate was high 20's but coming down with VV dosing to about 15-17.

Any ideas why they are dying off?

Maybe there not happy with lighting or flow, have you tried moving them to a new spot? Did all the corals come from the same place or separate vendor/reefer? If seperate could be a drastic change from their tank to yours and there just slowly fading away. Do you know the parameters from where they came? I like to try and ask so I can do my best to match it and make acclimation easier.

I've had problems with mine when magnesium or potassium is more.

I'm sure your big 3 are in check. If you want to borrow a potassium test I have one.

How high are they? Not all montis prefer strong light, they can be slowly acclimated to high light, but without slowly acclimating, they can die. Do fading and dying starts at the light facing sides of the colony.

Thanks. So, I think the answer might be twofold. My nitrate being a bit high and they came from close to zero nitrate water. I’m assuming all from the same frag tank.

I did recently switch from 250 watt radiums to 400 wattUshio 14K, and it is the light facing sides that are affected first. MST of the Montis are low in the tank, probably 24” down in a 30” tall tank. I did reduce photo period to 6 hours but that might not have helped I guess.

My magnesium is 1325 but I’ve never checked potassium.

What Montis did you pick up? You should hit up Brian ho to get a piece of his incredible nauti spiral.
