I have a stock LED one installed in my aquapod.. I'm working on building a solar powered one (i like to tinker with projects but am slow!) to experiment with on my 55g that will also be an LED.. it will blink slowly as if there were clouds passing by.. should be interesting
I have a string of 20 led bulbs attached inside the hood of my 125. I got them on ebay for $20 and they are great. They project enough light to see everywhere in the tank.
There are much more expensive options but these work great for me. I can send you a link if you are interested.
here's the setup i'm using. i have tried a few DIY projects, but just don't have the time or room to sit down, spread out and work on it. This one is plug-and-enjoy!
lights up the front middle of the tank, leaves the outer ends dark. i think it works out very well.
I use an LED light bulb...happen to have a light socket between three of my tanks...it was like $25 for the bulb, but only uses 4W and projects more than most overhead bulbs. It lights up all three of the tanks it is near and looks pretty cool because it makes the whole kitchen area feel like you're underwater.
