Heya guys. I am very new to the site and also new to the hobby. I am finding out that this can be a very expensive hobby. My startup cost for a 125g saltwater tank was astronomical. I don't even want to start on how I over mixed the salt in the water. I will tell that story another day quite funny now that I look back. Anyhow My question is I wanted to purchase a couple zoanthids and palythoas. I don't want my entire tank covered with coral just yet because of the care level and I am still sucking up all the information and it is a lot. I have learned a lot just by reading threads on this site. My question is do I need a skimmer right away to keep corals like these and if not how long can I get away without having a skimmer as long as I am doing my weekly water changes? I ask because I want to get a really good skimmer and I really won't be able to get one until end of July. I want to know will my coral survive that long? I currently have six fish 5 Damsels and one Blue Jaw Trigger living in harmony. Thanks guys.

If you stay on top of your water changes you should be able to get by without the skimmer, although having one will improve your water quality. It will help to keep your fish load low. Corals actually help the water quality, not hurt it by filtering the water. Zoanthids do fine if slightly dirty water so add them if you want them!

Best news I have heard all day. I will be getting a Reef Octopus Classic 2000 Hang-on-Back Protein Skimmer so I should be fine.
