I'm getting back into the hobby after about 4-5 years. Just wondering what everyone uses these days for their filtration systems. Post pics too if possible. Thanks.
I am going to say that a refugium might be the most popular these days. I had one on my 120, but when i upgraded to my 150 I got rid of it and bought a monster protein skimmer. The only mechanical filtration these days are filter socks, and skimmers. The hobby really has not changed in the last five years as far as filtration is concerned. There are however new was to export you nutrients and increase your water quality like vodka dosing and other carbon sources people use.
Welcome back to the addiction. I just got back to saltwater after a 15 year absence. Talk about change! I don't believe much has changed in the last 5 years. I see most people still using live rock/sump/skimmer/refugium combo. Add on reactors of various sortsare also popular. As requested, here's a pic of mine:
