Moving into new tank advice?

I have a few questions about moving into a new tank. I've had the tank running for four weeks now. There is no sight of ammonia when tested last night. I've placed 1/4 of my live rock into it so far. It has also given me a chance to zap a few aptasias. What my questions are...When I do a water change on the old tank tonight should I place the dirty water into the new tank? Will this help anything? I guess what I'm thinking is if the parameters are relatively close there shouldn't be much of a shock. I'm not looking to switch everything into it over night. But I'm not sure how to switch over. I've moved freshwater tanks before and there's always something that doesn't seen to make it. Please send some advice my way.

seeing how you don't plan to do it all in 1 night, it may make things easier....esp seeing how you've done it right and have the new one cycled already. I'd do a water change on the old tank and use that water to goto your new tank. It'll help add the necessary bacteria and help make things a bit easier to the new additions. You seem to be on the right track, let us know how it all goes :)

How long do you think I should keep waiting. I am going to do a water change tonight on the old and maybe again next week. Each time I do it I am going to add the water and a few more rocks to the tank. When do you think I should start bringing over the corals and fish????

If your tank has been up for 4 weeks running, you can start already. If you dont do it in 1 shot, take your time tho and dont move too much stuff like rock at once. Thats a big thing that burns people, moving rock or sand. You move that and it can really swing parms....esp ammonia. After moving a bit a water change is always a good idea and have some carbon in there too. I'd do a water change, put it in the new tank and move some rock and corals. You could probably move all the fish (if you can get them). Or if you want to do it in one swoop, take water out of old tank without moving anything and save it. Put the rock and corals in the new tank, once set, add the old tank water. its like doing a water change but you have the old non mixed bacteria water which is good to go. hopefully that will help with not bringing any major cycles.
