Moving my clams up...

I have a small maxima (2") and a crocea (4"). They currently are on the sand bed. I was thinking of raising my lights since summer is coming and the lights definetly warm up the tank a bit (250W DE MH 14K pendant). So, since Clams need lots of light, I wanterd to move them up on the rockwork, my tank is 24" deep. My question is how can I move them up without them attaching to one of the big rocks that I have stacked on top of each other? I'd like the option of moving them around if I decide to change the landscaping.

I'm new to clams and since you guys have much more experience, I thought there might be a way of getting around them attaching to any rock.

ps.....my lighting is 6-8" above the water. Was thinking of going up to 12"

if there attached to a large rock then tip then to the side so you can see there byssal threads, then cut them as far away from the clam as you can. then place the clams on a small flat rock, when the attach to them, move them where you wish.

Why not leave them alone and see how they do?

I think they'll be fine.


Attach them to small pieces of rock and then move them where ever you want.

I didn't know you could do this without it being fatal but good to know that it's possible.

Thanks for all the info,....Do you guys think that they would be fine on the sand bed?

No fans but was thinking of placing a 7" fan to blow across the top of the tank. I think I'd be better off with a smaller fan (not as bulky) but can't seem to find one.
