Ok, I wanted to ask for your expertize. I am building a new stank for my 90 gallon surfline tank. The stand that it is currently sitting on needs replazing. but to move it to its new stand, I would need to Take everything out and place it into buckets and then transfer the sand and put everything back in.

Here is the probl;em, what will that do to my water parameters and is there anything I should do to ease the transition. I am afraid that I will trhow my tank out of cycle and end up with my corals getting sad, or even worse passing out.

Any6 suggestion or comments will be greatly appreciated.!

Thanks!

If you break up the sand and move it into the tank, you'll be creating problems for yourself. If it's been set up for any apprefciable amount fo time, you may have some areas in the sand that have turned black and nasty. I always moved tanks with sand in them (if you have the volunteers to do it). 90 gallons might be pushing that limit, though (I only ever moved tanks with sand in them on 75's and less). I'm sure someone will disagree with me (they seemingly always do), but my experiences are my experiences;).

Well there is a couple ways to go about it. If your just going to swap the stands out and the tank is a 90 you should be able to move it with the sand in it. If you can't get some help or just dont want to do it that way. You an always rinse the sand with tank water before you put it back. I've done this several time and have had great luck with it. Infact when I took down my 190 I rinsed all the sand with tank water then moved it to my holding tanks when I tested the next day my nitrates were zero.. I was lucky, you probably will have a small spike but it shouldn't be a problem.. Just replace the tank water that you use to rinse the rock with New salt water once you fill it back up..

same tank new stand right? Totally agree with 8ball. You +1 can do it. Me and my little brother moved my 125 with sand and enough water to keep the sand wet. good luck!!
