I have done this travel several times with freshwater, however due to my introduction to salt water over the summer, i had to start a saltwater tank at college and being that its winter break time, i have to move my tank back home. My tank consists of a small chocolate chip star fish, and 2 clowns, with 15 lbs of live rock, 2 inch sand bed and is all housed in a 10 gallon tank. The tank looks beautiful.

I was thinking of doing the following
1) bagging inverts, fish separately, and starfish
2) saving 5 gallons of water
3) leaving 4 gallons in the tank with the live rock and sand so it would be a quick reassamble when i a back home.
4) put everything in a cooler.

is there anything better i can do? Can i put the fish in a smaller tank with a battery powered air bubbler? It is 3 hours door to door so not to bad.

I moved my 28 gallon tank about an hour and a half drive and used a 12vdc to 120vac converter plugged into the cigarette lighter. I plugged in one pump worked great. Moving the tank to the car, I emptied most of the water and moved tank to mini van sittinmg flat and put water back in. Taped the lid down. Worked great
