Moving from Chicago to Charlotte. I am faced with the fact that I am moving from my house in Chicago to a temporary apartment (3-6 months), then to my new house. The only thing I can think of is sell all my livestock and start from scratch in North Carolina. Any suggestions?

It is tough, I have moved a handful of times when I had systems running and I always sold off livestock including rock/coral/fish. Then when I get settled I usually use it as a starting point for a whole new tank, keep the equipment I can still sue and sell the tank and stand. How large is your tank?
I know for a fact there are a few quality reef store in or around charlotte, I move from there a yr or so ago. I would sell than rebuild.
Nemo reef - good selection and not terribly overpriced.
Upscale aquatics - fresh and saltwater selection. Coral are overpriced, fish price depends.
Inland reef - awesome place, I would compare with AquaPros. He did close down, but I heard he started a growth out place. Ask around you might be able to find out more.
