Moving rocks to another tank

Hi RC. I want to shut one of my tanks down and put a piece of rock from it into my 42 gallon. But the tank I am shutting down has hair algae in some spots. My 42 is immaculate and not a single piece of algae anywhere. What can I do to stop the algae from hitchhiking to my nice tank? I do not want to clean it with bleach or anything because it has some beautiful purple, pink, and red coraline algae on it.

Thanks!

you could maybe take a toothbrush or tweezers to the cleanest rock you can find in the tank and manually take some of the hair algae off with a light amount of pressure as to keep the coralline intact while de-rooting the HA? not sure how it would work, just a thought

I would suggest just using a toothbrush and taking off as much as you can. If your tank has no hair algae then that tank does not have the essential components to maintain hair algae. So hypothetically it should go away on its own.
