Hi,

My family and I will be moving out to Cedar Rapids about a year from now. I've been keeping saltwater tanks on and off for many years. When we move I am planning on setting up a 92 Corner bow for a seahorse tank (kept and bred them in the past.)

I just wanted to know if there are any recommended places to get good quality livestock in the area.

I havent decided if I should just purchase the tank there or move one from here. How are the tank prices in the area? (Moving is paid and my neighbor owns LFS)

By The way, anyone coming out to MACNA in pittsburgh?

First off, welcome to GIRS forum.

Cedar Rapids people are lucky enough to be right next door to one of the best (if not the best) saltwater shop in Iowa: Sea of Marvels.

It's located about 15 minutes south of C.R.

There is another pretty good shop in C.R. called Pet's Playhouse. They have a fairly large selection of Fresh and Saltwater livestock.

As for ponnies you are pretty limited. If you can get good quality captive bred stock lined up. Have them shipped to you a few months later.

Also check out Coralville Bay, just a little drive down to Coralville.

Not a huge selection, but nice and very healthy.

Pet's playhouse has improved a lot over the last couple months. They ordered me a tank for a very good price and I'd bet they could order you in some horses if you asked.

As far as I know, there really aren't any stores in Iowa that have a decent coral selection/prices... That's what the local members are for :) but both Sea of Marvels and Pet's playhouse have a nice fish selection.

Check out our website for a listing of the SW petstores in iowa

Aquatic Environments carries one of the best selections of coral and is only 1 hour east of CR (located in Davenport). Their prices are a little steep also, but their quality and selection are always top notch. As mentioned before, Hung at Sea of Marvel's would be your closest store and he has a brand new location. He is a great guy to deal with and really comes through with some of the more rare items. I have never seen healthier fish and he is also a big fish, shrimp, and seahorse breeder.

If you truely want a good deal on healthy corals look to make it to our meetings or auctions as there is nothing better than paying a fair price for a healthy specimen and making a local connection while your at it. WELCOME to IOWA and hopefully we will see you at a meeting soon!!!!

Sea of Marvels had sea horses at their old store in coralville....
Im not sure if they have them at their new store or not though, haven't been there in a while....
if not, they should in the next year tho....

That sounds great. I've bred them in the past so I am pretty familiar with their keeping. Hardest part is finding a healthy specimen but it sounds like there are some options.

I am looking forward to joining and attending the meetings and the swaps. I've been pretty neglect about attending our PMAS meetings in pittsburgh, but I always try.

Pet's Playhouse usually has seahorses. I am sure it depends on what day you are there. They are pretty nice there, but not a good selection of corals. Sea of Marvels is also good, like the others have said. Welcome!
