Moving to Cleveland

Hi, all. I am moving to the Cleveland area from the Youngstown area in a couple of months (at least I am praying thats where they send me). Going to be an Army Recruiter up their. I am looking at houses in the North Ridgeville area particularly at housing development called Meadow Lakes. Any info on that place? Seems to be a great location. Anyone got any other advice on where to buy or build a house? And no I can't afford Pepper Pike. I wish. Is it really cheaper right now to build up their than it is to buy? Seems like that is the better value right now.

i was born & raised in ridgeville, i hate the place....

too many people, the kids think they are straight from the hood.....
oh, did i say its crowded?
and they have more cops than LA does.

me and my parents moved to columbia station, much better if ya like the rural area

Which ones? I need to stay close to Berea b/c thats where my wife goes to school. Drives up their 2 days a week from down here.

i vote columbia station : )
you can actually have a decent yard. they have some nice 1-2 acre developments down the street from me on station rd

Do NOT Build!!. I spent 22 years in new constuction.. All the builders care about is profits. Find a nice older house and go from there. i have twin nieces that have built new house in Avon.. and they are junk for 500K. JMHO, Karl

im not o fond of NR , lived in Elyria all my life. NR has always been a mess over there , roads are crap , schools stink , shopping is VERY limited.
Parma, Strongsville, Berea have my vote near west side. the far west side Lagrange, Grafton, Elyria, Vermilion, Amherst has some nice homes (with land) , and the tax in Lorain County is cheaper than in Cleveland suburbs BIG TIME,and if you have the right Realtor , they can find good deals right now in Real Estate

and your closer to Salty Critter, cant go wrong there , nice house & close to Salty ???? yea buddy ,,,,,,,,,,,,,

There're some houses for sale in our developement.

Lorain address, Amherst school system, and 10 minutes from the Critter.:D

Drive into N Ridgeville after 5pm M-F or try to get out of N Ridgeville in the am shuffle IT SUCKS! High Taxes. Its a buyers market right now. I would try to buy a bank owned property in one of the areas with good schools, low crime and taxes. If you decide to buy a new construction dont be afraid to haggle, new construction (residential) is down. Some places offer 15yr tax abatements. Live in the county and avoid the city tax where ever
you decide.

i moved to brunswick from brooklyn (ohio) and i love it to death the neighborhood im in is great, so i vote brunswick, excellent schools all price ranges of homes and near shopping in medina and strongsville.

I went for this. 4.75% FIXED 30 year rate, and a 15 year transferable 100% tax abatement.

It's not for everybody, especially if you have kids (schools around here suck) or if you like having a yard. Most of the units are still under construction so you can pick out all flooring/countertop/etc. options.

They have big plans for this neighborhood. This spring they start a $400million development directly across the river. I'm no more than 3 minutes away from almost every freeway (90, rt2, 71, 77, etc) C-SEA has their meetings literally 5 minutes away, and there are tons of great places to go out.

Hey Deliboy, I have a bit different perspective. I grew up in Berea and now live in Ridgeville and love it. I've been here for three years. I live in the Waterbury developement and think the city is on the way up. I know there are plans to build a new high school and improve shopping. The 911 system was also just upgraded. Lots of new people moving in. Meadow Lakes is in a nice location being close to 480, the TP, and 90. Plus, its still one of the cheaper places to live. There is one thing. No Papa John's. You have to drive to Westlake for that. Don't forget close proximity to Croker Park, which is a nice place to eat and shop. I think you'll like it. The cops aren't a big problem unless you're driving around after midnight and swurving. And the most important thing: 15 Minutes to aquatic tech, 30 minutes to salty critters, 25 minutes to RMS. Good luck.
