Moving to Hawaii

It looks like the Army is moving me again; this time to a not so bad place and to a not so bad job in Hawaii (Oahu). I am trying to get the low down on the reef keeping situation there. I know I can ship the tank and all the equipment however, what corals if any will I be allowed to have sent to me once I get everything reestablished in Hawaii?

Obviously I will need to take my tank down and I want to find the best way to liquidate all my corals. I see two options, bring massive amounts a various size frags to the next 3 meetings. Or option two, have an open house so everyone one can hand pick their frags (colonies) directly from my tank. How many folks would be interested in option two? Also, ââ"šÂ¬Ã…"œhancockrichââ"šÂ¬Ã‚ Rich will be moving to Ft Hood a few months later, I spoke to him last night and he will also be ready to do this with me. So that is two wonderful SPS tanks we need to empty in the next few months

Wow, Bummer for us, but great for you I bet. Never stationed there but had a few hangovers, I mean hold overs there. April get together in Sierra Vista?

Yea, kind of a bummer because they are saying probably an early to mid summer move. I really need to find out as much info on what I can and can't have in my tank there.

When you find out what you can have, Maybe I'll hand carry some corals to you!

Hopefully I'll have my bigger tank up and running by then. I think you can do both option 1 and 2. If you do option 2, I'll be in Vegas the weekend of April 16th. Obviously, I don't need to be here, but if everyone is coming down I'd like for it to be on a weekend I'm home.

WOW. Nice place to be I loved it when I was TDY there. What a bummer for both of you and this will be a loss for the community. Either option is fine by me as I am pretty easy to please. Hmmm and I don't even have my big tank set up set gotta get cooking on it now. Either way congrats Ed I'm sure you'll be enjoying those really terrible days in paradise.

wow...that's cool and it sucks all at the same time. i'd post this question in the reef discussion forum cause i pretty sure there's some strict restrictions on corals in Hawaii. sucks that you've got to break down your setup, but look on the bright side...great scuba diving right at your door step.:thumbsup:

Yea, I posted in there and also the Frag forum. I got a good responce there and as I suspected there are very stick regulations in place.

Hi Ed, can I come visit you!!! Hawaii has some great dives. Think of it this way, you may loose your NANO reef, but it will be replaced with a BIG reef.

We may be heading out there in a year or two also, Katherine is applying to a residency program in Hawaii.

As for the corals, my 110 tall should be done by then, and will be ready for stocking.

Ill be getting new lights soon also and a calk reactor. So my tank should be ready.
