Well got a closing date on our house. ? is do I break down my tank and take it or part with it. Moving from S.E. Florida to the west side of Atlanta. My first tought is take it all with. I have had it set up for about 5yrs in this location. The move will be somewhat stressfull to begin with. 1st stop reset up a system a my parents house for about 60 days, then to the new house. So kinda 2 moves in 60 to 90 days. Pics in gallery. Help

I've moved from Mobile AL to Muncie IN and back. Yes, it was a headache and not without its problems. But in the end, especially with a tanks you've had that long, I think it would be worth keeping. The moving it to your parents house should make things alot easier than what I went through, last thing packed, first thing unpacked.

IMO, selling it is more difficult than moving it.

I really dont want to give up these corals I have had most of them for at least 5 years. Most made it thur last years 3 hurricanes that hit us. 2004-2005 went like 28 days no power 12 days 9 days. I no they can handle the move but what a pita this is going to be

I've only had my tank for about 6 months, but I don't think I could part with it. I'm going to tag along to this thread. Hopefully there are some people out there with moving experience out there who have some good lessons learned.

Yep happy to sell the house. But this part of the move is going to be nuts. If I take it got a good plan in place I think, Got lots of bags, coolers for the corals coolers for the rock most of the sand is in the fuge which i will leave in and move that way.The display tank water i will keep about 30 gal after i scrape all the coraline of the sides and back want to keep as much of it as poss. To seed the new tank prob get a pound of it off the back and sides I figure 2 full days before I get it all set back up. Then do it all over again in about 60 to 90 days

The tank i have now, I inherited right before I was about to move. To avoid the hassles, I set it up in my office. I like it because I can enjoy it more. I don't like it because I have to come to work on Satudays to take care of it.

Wrkinreef, I am going to be in the same situation as you in about 2 months and I have to break down a 55 gallon tank with 5 large predator fish. To be honest I though about selling as well but I cannot part with them. It would be like selling my children. I think you feel the same.

I think if you have a well thought out plan in place prior to move then you should have minimal problems. Just a few ideas to ponder.
Have the day you tear down the tank devoted entirely to just that the tank, allow no distractions, time is life to the critters.
Have tons of coolers, borrow some heaters, get old clean towels to soak in tank water to cover your rock(I have transported hundreds of pounds of live roock this way). If you can get pieces of styrofoam to rubberband around large coral pieces to keep breakage to a minimum. Good Luck.

Just a thought.... use a power inverter for a powerhead and a heater for whatever you use to transport your corals and rock in. The water movement and constant temp (or at least not letting it go completely cold) should be enought to make the trip much much less stressfull on the critters. That and when you get to your destination, you could even let it sit for a little while to give you some time to set up your stand and display and time to make some new water while everything sits out in your car with water circulation and a heater.... and if you're concerned, toss an air pump in there too.

Loralie thanks all softies in the tank so they are not really a issue. bagem and good to go for them. The rock have coolers for and towels thats good I can have the tank packed in about 3hrs. The90 display is going to be the new sump/fuge the 55 sump/fuge now will be a grow out tank . We want a odd sized tank for the new display something like 60x48x18. Have to make up 50gal of new water and mix with the 30 gal that we will keep from the display only going to use about a 1/4 of the rock and cook the rest when we do the first temp set up

I'm following this thread as well; soon I'll graduate and move my tank and I'm not looking forward to it either. good luck, wrkinreef.
