So, I love the Vortech MP pumps, and when I set up my 400G I set up a pair of them, one on either side of the tank. They integrate with Apex, move a lot of water, are quiet...it's all good.
Unfortunately, my tank walls are 1.25" thick acrylic, and they're rated for 1". The MP60 on the left wall works flawlessly: never stops. But the one on the right wall is constantly getting out of sync: the dry and wet side lose connectivity for a microsecond and the propeller stops, with the dry side just floundering. I have to stop and restart the pump. This is despite doing my utmost to get the alignment between wet and dry side perfect, and despite not using one of the spacers.
Unless someone has an idea on how to keep this from happening, I'm done with it. I have a pair of Wavs as well, on the back wall anchored through the overflow wall (much thinner): I suppose I could replace the MP60 with a third Wav, but 1) I don't know if the magnet will work through 1.25" acrylic (although I guess I could just glue it), and 2) they don't move as much water (~4000 gph instead of around 6000).
I liked the MP60 because it's on the end of the tank and I didn't have to screw with wires (Wav's on the overflow are fine since the wires thread through the overflow). I've thought of a Tunze, but same problem (wires) plus I like the Apex integration.
