MP10 RBTA safe with stock sponge cover?

I would say "Safer", but not 100%.
The main concern would be during a potential power outage and the pump stopping, if it was constantly running then I'd say it would be 99% safe.

I have RBTA's in two tanks that have MP10 and MP40's and use the stock foam cover on all of them and have not had a problem. I've even had one slim over the foam cover and not get sucked in, but I did shut it off to help him get off of it faster.
IME, never have a pump or strong intake not covered when you have a bubble tip!
