I have recently set up a new skimmer and was wondering if there is a certain level i should keep the water column for optimal foam. if there is anyone out there who still runs a beckett style skimmer please give me some info cause i am new to these and pics would be helpful.

thanks
Dan

bump

it seems everytime i get the level set it overflows water all in to my collection bucket. do I need one of those collection canisters where if it gets full the skimmer cant overflow. it is getting to be real frusterating.

thanks

I have my water lever just into the first riser, usually takes a few hours to get going after I clean it. How are you running the air intake? Sounds like you're getting to much air, this usually happens to me when the valve is out. My collection bucket is an old 2L bottle, the once specific for the skimmer shuts the air when its full but is not required.

i have no hose on the air valve, i have it at half way open, or closed i dont know it is in the middle. the first riser is good to know i was making it higher. do you have any pics of yours set up? it would be appreciated.

thanks
Dan

I use to wet skim with the water level just below the cup, but as per the advise from Tony (Acropora) it would run better with more air so I set the water level just to the base of the chamber and opened up the air valves. It takes some tweaking to get it set, but he was right, it runs alot better now. I also have risers on both becketts which help create more contact time.
