i have many tanks and one of them was a fuge with 1/2 gal of mud in a 29 gal tank .over a period of two years i have slowly removed everything but the mud and turned it back into a display tank . the mus is on one side covered with sugar size gravel along with the other side being only gravel . this tank is also plumbed into four other tanks along with a common sump . i have been experiencing problems keeping any fish alive in the tank with the mud and also have had a bunch or corals die in the same tank . all that have perished are wrasses that burrow at nite .my question is is there something with the mud that is killing them or am i just having bad luck ? i have been trying to put some pretty delicate fish in this tank and that also may be the problem but im starting to think that it may be the mud . the fish that have perished are as follows 3 choati leopard wrasses ,terminal male pink margin fairy wrasse , black leopard wrasse ,bipartius leopard wrassemale and female, and a common leopard wrasse . they all were eating very well and showed absolutly no signs of sickness ,weekness ,etc and all died out from under the gravel .dkh 10 sal 1.026 ph 8.2 na ni amm 0 temp 79-80 and has since been lowered . in the other three tanks that are plumbed together i have 8 leopard wrasses ,five fairy wrasses ,tusk ,purple tang, blennies ,red coris wrasse yellow tail coris wrasse and a couple others that slip my mind right now .when the fish die they look perfect externally and i have used prazi pro and also dosed this system with interceptor . every new fish that i add to this tank perishes within weeks and i feed well live and frozen foods. one thing that i havent done is tried to put any new fish in any other of the tanks in this system so i dont know if its the water . 150 gal total asm2x skimmer phosphate reactor and matrix carbon 1 cup per every other week . t5 lighting above three tanks and pc s over one of them . any thoughts would be cool to hear and yes i am removing the mud asap but dont really see why it would hurt anything .
