Mud or Live sand for refugium

After doing some research I am not sure that I want to use the mud that is going to come with my refugium kit. I've read where some didn't follow directions correctly and it whiped out their entire tank!!

Is it worth it?

Ive used ref mud before. I am much happier with live sand and CC mix. Its less of a pain and seems to work great with everyone i know.

I am in the planning stages of reworking my refuge and sump. I initially set it up with mud, but I will be replacing the mud with live sand and rock.
