multi-filtration unit

Has anybody tried something like this: staged sulphur denitrator/phosphate reactor If so, does it work well, do you have pics? Or if you haven't, do you think it would work well?

The simple question is....Why would you need it? This should be VERY well accomplished by your normal filtration. No real need for it. But, the design is sound. What I dont know, is the by product of the media, and if it would alter the reef chemistry in any unwanted way.
