Multiband Pipefish 1st go.

Well I decided to dive in and acquire a Multiband Pipefish that has been at one of my LFS's for the past 3 weeks to a month. I've popped in a few times to watch it, and its always been actively scanning the tank bottom. So tonight I took the plunge and brought it home.

Things initially appear good, it ate a few small pieces of mysis within a half hour of being in the tank after acclimation. It is currently in a 10 gallon "QT" that is well grown over with algae. There is a small amount of white on the dorsal, so I'm thinking a round of metro is in order once it is eating well.

Hmm...the internet is not liking me and wont let me embed my picture, so follow the link below to see him:

Those are awesome fish and always on the prowl for food. I had one for 4 or 5 months before my haddoni got a hold of it. They can't handle alot of flow or they just get pushed around. Good luck!

Thanks guys!

It is now day 3 going to 4, and things are going tentatively well. It ate well for the first 2 days, then refused all food yesterday(albeit still showing interest in food), and today he took three snicks out of fairly large chunks of mysis. He seems to be very particular about which part of the mysis he likes to eat right now.

PE mysis is usually a little bit large for most pipefish, especially when they are getting acclimated. My banded pipe eats Hikari and prefers it over PE. If your tank has pods it will hunt those down first. My pipe didn't eat much for the first month until the pod population got depleted but now it eats mysis 2 Xs a day.

I also used copepods to feed mine until he moved to another source. It did take a while though but now he likes to eat with the crew.
