Mushroom Growth HELP !!

I have a 55 tank up and running for about 3 years now, I have never been able to get good mushroom growth. I have high output T-5 lighting and the mushrooms are not in strong water flow. My Iodine level is at .06, calcium 400-475, nirite 0, nitrate 0,
ammonia 0. This is a reef only tank. I have Yumas that have moved to the top of the rocks and also some at the bottom. They seem to be somewhat bleeched out, both sets. I also have red mushrooms in the tank bottom side and they are also a few here and there. I like the look of alot of mushrooms in a tank and am wondering what I can do to achieve this.

You did not say what your phos. level is @. High phos levels can retard coral growth.

Do you have any reference to that? All know is phosphate retards calcification, in hard corals or otherwise.

It is entirely possible that you have too much light for the mushrooms. I get explosive growth from the shrooms that are in shaded areas.

Try setting up an area that is shaded from the T-5’s and set a shroom or two in that area and keep track for a month or so.

Also, have you tested for iodine?

I have blue/red shrooms under 400w, 20k, XM, lumenarc 2-3, inches under the water surface that grow/multiply like crazy. Light is not the problem-JMHO
I would check iodide/iodine levels again as well as ALK/PH I also feed a ton. good luck!

Bleaching ususally has to do with too much or too little light, unless they started before you got them. Feeding usually helps. I use Formula1 pellets. Most muchrooms can live under NO flourescents, but like more light.

They do not require feeding with the right lighting, but if you want them to spread or grow faster (as with any invert) feed it more. But the bleaching is not typically caused by lack of food.

I agree about the lighting. I have heard alot of negative about T5 and shrooms. But if you don't think that is it, here is my recient experiances.
I have always dosed kalk and kept the PH around 8.4-8.5. This has comtroled undesirable algae. Mushroom growth has always been slow to med. In the last few weeks I had gotten lazy with the kalk in the top-off and most of the time was just using RO/DI and no kalk. All of a sudden ALL my mushrooms started leaving little ones behind and tongas and ricordias splitting. At the same time I started having brown diatoms appear heavily on the glass. I started with the kalk on a regular again about the middle of last week slowed the diatom growth and I noticed the shroom growth has slowed once again.
