Mushroom problem

Mushrooms are a known aquaria pest, unfortunately. I have read of people replacing LR just to combat/erradicate them. I know others have use similar tactics to how you would battle aiptasia (kalk paste injections, boiling freshwater injections, etc). Manual removal also works, but becareful as cutting some 'shrroms underwater can release a toxin. I recall a thread some time ago where a reefer had to cut out a 'shroom and the next morning a nearby SPS RTNed overnight. Some people also cook their rocks to rid themselves of the mushrooms, but that is almost as extreme as flat out replacing the rock.

Best of luck in trying to rid yourself of those pests.

i have a similar problem with red mushrooms. I usually give them away to other reefers but if I have too many I find that joe's juice works pretty good.

I would love to give these away, but its all over my LR and cant be taken out. I just boiled a very large LR covered with mushrooms. But the one thats between the corals that concerns me.

I also have a very large star polyps that is spreading fast. I need to git rid of . But the LR is wedged in and cant be remove.

I will try Joe's Juice.

Tom,

Thanks for letting me barrow you flashlight during the regional frag swap.

Nanoclown,

I would but the mushrooms and star polyps are wedged into my LR with SPS. Some are in places that i cant even reach.

No problem.. always happy to help out a fellow reefer :). Best of luck with your mushroom problem :(. While we set up out new tank I am going to do my best to isolate the 'shrooms to their own little "island" surrounded by sand (at least those that we keep.. the rest 'gotta go !' :)). Don't forget to stop by our tank build thread and say hi! :)
