I was moving my corals to the bottom of my tank because I just upgraded to MH from NO. As I was trying to break loose the rock the hairy mushroom was on the rock cracked in half. If I tore the mushroom will it recover?

Under normal circumstances it almost definitely would and if it was torn completely in half you would probably end up with two shrooms. The combo of new lighting and being ripped in half could be too much "trauma" for it though and it could be more susceptible to infections and all that.
My guess is that it will still recover just fine though. I had a hairy mushroom basically ripped to pieces when my powerhead slipped down and the hydro-flo on it slowly grinded away at the shroom, and that recovered fully in about a month. Their regenerative powers are pretty amazing.

I'm trying to be gentle with the new lights only 4 hours a day to start. 2 hours on, 4 hours off, then 2 hours on again.
