My 180

Well, sorry for not doing this as a build thread, but for most of it, it was a one man operation, so my hands were a little busy. I started this about 2 or 3 months ago to better accommodate my hippo tang's growing size, and then the GF got on board and it was all on from there.
I guess this is basic, nothing super fancy. I've always thought peninsula tanks were awesome, so I decided to cut my apartment in half and do one. Its not entirely done, I was racing to get the fish moved over and everything set up before everyone shows up for thanksgiving, so the stand isnt sided yet, neither is the canopy. That will come later. This is actually turning out to be ok, since everything needs to be fiddled with at the moment. Stand is a DIY overbuilt special, 2x4s and 2x6s, the display tank is a 180G non-reef ready, which I drilled for glass-holes.com overflow boxes, the return, and closed loop. Sump is a baffled 75 gallon. Return is a Reeflo Snapper, Closed loop is a Dart through an OM 4-way. To avoid swiss cheesing the tank, the CL runs over the top of the rim, all the outlets are submerged. Still tinkering with the flow angles and stuff, but so far its working well. My skimmer eventually will be an Octo Pro 300, I just havent gotten around to buying it yet so for now my G3 is getting a workout. Lighting is 2x175W MHs and a 250W, which I've discovered today when I flipped the lights on for the first time just wont cut it.... I'm going to go to 3x250.
My intent was to have a lot of open room, so when I transferred my 90, I bought no more rock. Best guess is there's 140 lbs in there. I'm going to add more into the fuge for extra filtration area. I know its kind of barren on the coral front right now, I plan to add more as time goes on. It'll be a completely mixed reef, as I dont have the courage to spend the big bucks on rare SPSs when I have trouble keeping the cheap ones happy, but we'll see where this goes.
I've got some clean up to do (electricals, timers, set up the phosban reactor again, etc...) but I'm happy with the results of the transfer so far, and the fish seem to be enjoying the extra room
:D

The tank is looking great, quick question. Are the butterflies you have chosen reef safe?

I love butterflies but i have read so much about them turning on corals.
