I'm new to this hobby and have done allot of research to figure out my equipment needs for startup. After choosing which brands of filter, skimmer etc I wanted, I did price comparisons with various online dealers. Marine Depot had the best price for the skimmer I chose, and it was free shipping. The summary of the skimmer mentioned it was an external skimmer. I assumed this meant it was external to the tank, like a hang-on. Instead it meant it was external for a sump. I do not have a sump so this was not going to work.
I called Marine Depot and told them the mistake I had made. Even though the box was opened they told me to ship it back for credit. They waived the restocking fee, and immediately sent me the hang-on skimmer I had wanted. I was charged $10.02 by UPS to send the external skimmer back, and Marine Depot charge me $9.99 to send the hang-on out. Not too bad considering the mixup was my fault.
Marine Depot could have charged me 20% restocking fee and didn't.
Marine Depot could have denied credit for the skimmer since I had opened the box, but they happily accepted it.
I would recommend Marine Depot to a friend for online aquatic purchases! Kudos
