Hello

INFO

40 gallon hex tank
120 pounds sugar sand
20 pounds lr
2 powerheads
ac100 fuge with cheato and a 6500k pc bulb on 24/7
temp kept at 72 degrees

LIVESTOCK

3 tube anemones
1 chili coral
tons of pods

tank has been running for 7 months. it was a coral tank with mh for about 4 months. merged 2 tanks into one and made this one non photosynthetic. this tank gets no light except from a little window in the basement and spillover from the fuge light. i am trying to recreate a cave theme. i dump in food about 2 times a week and let the current feed the chili coral and tube anemones. they do very well catching there own food. i take the 5 gallons of water i change from my reef tank and dump it into the 40 gallon. this way any pods or organic food gets reused better and feeds other animals instead of going down the drain. hope you like it.

I likely already asked in Tubeless tube anemone thread (or Tube anemone care? something like that), where you described this tank setup plans, but once again, what is the rate of growth of your anemones, did they visibly increased their size during the period of their keeping?

I'm still thinking about species hex tank, but have no information for how long the initially suitable tank size lasts.
Mine is the big orange one.

skeeter-doc .... i do plan on adding more tube anemones but i am waiting to find some of the same species. i know they have never been breed in captivity but i would like to try it. it could be a interesting experiment.

dendro982 .... you can see the rate of growth overtime. the tube anemone with the green center has doubled in size since i purchased him. the other two have not really grown to much above the sand but when i transplanted them from a previous tank there tube was longer then when i bought it. they may have already reached there "adult" size or they may just grow by the amount of food they catch. i have seen some huge orange tube anemones though. some with tentacles over a foot and a half long. if i was going to keep them i would only put 2 or 3 in a tank this size. but with the purple variety i am planning on adding at least 4 or 5 more once i find the ones i want.
