My 75

Nice build. I'll be following along as u progress. how did you "check" your tank to see if you can drill it. I'm trying to get the courage to drill mine but I'd rather be completely sure that i can drill it.

Cool build so far, I like how youve taken the time to make things look nice! Also, any way for me to join Team Chris? Id be a natural fit!

Thanks. To check to see if the glass is tempered you can use a polarized lens and a LCD screen. Here's a read up on how to figure it out here .

I hit a speed bump.:headwalls: It won't stop me, but will slow me down considerably. I got red bugs in my current DT. At first I was confused as to how they got there because I put all new corals into QT for observation and treat as necessary until ready. Well I got some snails from a guy taking down his tank and I didn't QT them. This is the ONLY way I can see how they got into my system. Lesson learned. Now I'm going to do an intercepter treatment and start QT'ing all over again.

Also the rock in the 75 is leaching PO4 pretty bad. I had this rock in my previous tank for a couple of months and when I moved I just let it dry out. Since then I have only rinsed it in RODI water. It's at .89 so I'm running GFO/carbon and doing W/C's until it's gone. After that I'm going to add live rock to the sump and add a raw shrimp to start the cycle.

I'm guessing that I'll have fish and coral in the 75 no sooner than November.:hmm2:

I've been thinking about putting my clownfish and a nem into the fuge. I would like to keep my fish in the DT limited to wrasse's, gobies, tang, and anthias. I'm going to light the fuge with some LED's and would like to do a DIY kit. I eventually want to replace my halides with a DIY kit, so a little light to start will be good practice. :hammer:

That sucks Justin. So did you end up treating any of those corals that you had under observation? If not I would still consider them the sorce if they are Acro's. The hitchhiking idea is def possible too if they came from a SPS filled tank. If I buy anything that is in a SPS tank I always profilacticly treat them with interceptor. I should add that I have never got snails or shrimp from a SPS tank and if I did I would probably just qt them for a couple weeks insted.

I just drilled my 75g yesterday. The back glass is fine to drill but on the bottom. Its easy to do just go slow.

good advice, i just drilled mine today and it came out fine. allsps40, im actually following your thread as well. but enough about you and me. OP, any reason why you dont want the clowns in with the wrasse? I plan on an all wrasse with 2 clowns tank, but if the clowns will be too aggressive i might have to rethink my stock.

Not with intercepter, just revive and medicoral. I have gotten 2 pieces so far that have had pests on them that I tossed in the trash. Other than that, I inspect them as best as I can with magnifying glasses. None(other than the two) have had any signs of pests or eggs. I think from now on I'm going to QT everything and for a longer time.

Glad you got it done.

Its not the compatibility of the fish, but personal preference. Most every tank I see has a clownfish pair in the DT. I would also like to keep an anenome away from any sps.

Just placed my first fish order for a 1"-1.5" zebrasoma rostratum * I don't know when it will come in, but I have a 29g tank to hold until ready. Since this fish isn't guaranteed to come in any time soon, I also ordered a zebrasoma xanthurum of the same size. Whichever comes in first will be tanks only tang.

Well Irene wasn't as bad to me as I thought it would be. I only lost power for about 12Hrs. I had battery backups so I was sailing smooth.

Made a little progress on the build. I moved my frag tank onto it's stand, and moved all of my livestock into a 29G for the time being. Here's a pic of how it looks now.

The room that the tank is in will also be my girlfriends study area, so I also got her desk in there. It works out nice for me because I can use some it for storage.
