as some of you may know....ive been needing a canopy for my 46bw for quite some time now.......so this weekend, i decided to practice making one for my 20.......some you folks might think its ugly.....but i did it just for functionality.....and might i add that i only had a handsaw, and a hammer (and still needs to paint).....so im pretty proud of myself

next weekend i'll work on the bowfront,....the curve already got my mind all twisted as to how i want it

I know you're on a budget, but you should price something they call 'wacky wood'. I haven't worked with it, but it's supposed to make bends like you'll need for the bowfront.
I don't know who sells it, so you'll have to ask someone in the lumber business.

ive read up on that too Fan (the reason i stay up so late somtimes)......but i already purchased all the wood i need for the tank....and ive even found some type of wood that bends enough at HD........ive googled prices on that wacky wood, and the price for the front panel cost more than what i spent today....thanks for the headsup though

I am just finishing up a canopy for a 46gal bow. It's made out of 3/16" oak MDF covering a pine frame. it is curved to matched the tank and stained to match the tank trim. it will take a little more than a hammer but if your interested i can take you step by step through it...but you will need some carpentry skills and common sense....and the ability to read a tape measure accurately. i can show you pics also....although they are not great pics...they will help. let me know

Wow, Jason... I'm sure A LOT of people would love it if you started a thread maybe in the DIY forum and showed how you did yours. :) Seems like thats always a popular subject and something thats a bit more than complicated than normal in the canopy department. :)

jason, you should start a DIY of your build....a lot of people could use the tip.....im fairly good with my carpentry skills, given the right tools (i just didnt have them this time around)....me,my bros, and my pops have build a storage house, installed wood floors, made a wooden patio in our older house.....but its been a couple years since the last big thing that i did

Yep! I actually have a friend who is an extremely good carpenter who is going to help me. :) I'm going to make it a double-fold design, having the front fold up, and then the top kind of prop up like a hood for access to my lights. :) I'm really excited about it... Jack gave me the idea after mentioning having the whole top fold up... then it hit me to just have two things fold up! Perfect! :)

Anyway, it shouldn't be a huge project and I got a gift card to Lowes for Christmas to buy my wood. :D

Mighty fine job for the first try & limited tools. It looks good. Your tank is coming along. I have some rics currently if your interested btw.

10.00 with multiple mouths. I should have some for the swap. Theres someone coming over later that may take the lot.
