My clown looks like it lost a UFC Fight-Whats wrong?

Late last night I notice a red colored bruise, the 2 day before his nose was a whitish color; on the front of my Clownfishes face. This afternoon it apearse to have gotten worst as it looks to have ulcerated.
Current circustances in the tank:
I am in the process of trying to pair with my B&W and they have been scuffling a little and also doing the clownfish dance. The only other culpit in the tank could be a 6 line.

I have feed couple of times today and he is eating. This morning and last night he was eating more, this evening he didn't eat much if any. It looks like he is having a hard time closing his mouth.

I have looked through all the threads on clownfish disease and can not find anything that resemble this, there I am thinking it may be a battle wound. What do you think? Should I treat him and with what?

Thanks for all your help,
Carrie

This morning it looks to have healed a little over night. Last night and this afternoon he is eating a good amount of Formula one pellets soaked in selcon.

Waiting for a BM to see what it looks like.....

It could very well be from trying to pair it with your B&W.

Was the B&W already established in the tank then you put this guy in?

When I introduced my B&W to the tank with a regular occellaris already in there, there was quite a bit of fighting and the B&W basically got his butt kicked like yours did. Mine took a few days to eventually pair then a week or so for the wounds to heal and the fins to grow back...I treated the tank once with melafix but basically let nature take course.

Keep an eye on em' and be prepared to separate if it gets continually worse.

That is my guess on the wounds...

To make a long story short. You would think the B&W would be nicer to new little guy as the reason for the new addition was because my Older much meaner clown (was the only clown for 2years) beat the tar out of him when I try to pair her up with him. That clown was rehomed after a several months of tail bitting and fin shreading. I then introduced a smaller semi snowflake clown which is now the one getting beat up.....

Could you tell me what were the size diffrent between the two when you matched them up?
Mine are 1"1/2 (semi) and the other 2" (B/W)

My female was a good 2.5inches compared to the 1-1.5 inch B&W that I introduced a few months later...I made sure to get a small B&W out of the group at the fish store to get a better grasp on the gender (assuming my established clown has become a female and dominant, and the new one still being a male).

Really, from what I have read some people get lucky(me) with pairing and others like yourself get a stubborn clown that tears the potential partners to shreds eventually...

I guess the best way is to introduce two at the same time...but, just like me, I am sure you were hoping for better luck with whatchya got

Good luck, lemme know if you need any more advice/personal experiences

The big scab on his face feel off today, still had some brusing around his eye but looking tons better. Now is he able to close him mouth completly and is eat much better and BM look normal.
Hopefully, on the up swing of all this. Thinking about using the Mcgyver cage to reintroduce him back into the display today all no signs of disease.

I am so happy to report that my Black Ice Semi Snowflake clown is fully recovered and after a week in the McGyver box in the main display he was released into the fins of his awaiting girlfriend. They had their first dance and now are inseperable.

Congratulations!!!

About time they kissed and made up!

I think putting him in the separated container really helped the breaking in period...

Dynastykid-you were right all along. Thanks for all your advise.

interesting combo....and glad to hear they are now inseparable.

Weird how all the pics show up as big red Xs for me but when I click them I can see them. Must be my browser or something.

Its clear plastic mesh. One of the RC members bought it on a huge roll then took orders and cut pieces for people wanting it. From what I understand its only sold in large 50 foot rolls. I will check my pm's and find out who I got it from and pm you the info. I used it to make a tank cover screen as I have a few jumpers.

good to hear it wasnt more severe.
I have a GSM pair that sometimes pick/groom spots so bad they get fuzzy lips for a day or two.
