My Experience with Ultralife Fish Trap

I had to catch 3 fish recently and i didnt want to break down the tanh. After some research, I decided to spend the money on a fish trap. I bought the Ultralife "The Trap" product.

I needed to catch a royal gramma, six line wrasse, and a PITA green chromis who was the toughest to catch.

So here's the bottom line:

I did catch all 3 - so the product is good in my view. However, i did have to make a small easy mod. The door is too light under water to shut quickly if at all. So i tied a small LR rubble on the top of the door with a fishing line which from there went to a small paper weight in the room.

I put some food into the main compartment (the other screw on part didnt do much for me), and waited. The first too fish were caught with mysis shrimp (gramma, wrasse) when the trap was laying on the bottom of the tank. The green chromis had to be caught by placing the trap at the water line and using blood worms. I had to tie up the trap at the water line so it wouldnt sink.

So at the end of the day, i caught the fish and i'm happy with the product. If I was Ultralife, i would add a small weight at the top of the trap door to make sure it shuts properly.

hope this helps someone else :)

gabriel...the one i got was 4"x9".
So the opening is 4" in diameter. It's not really intended for Big fish.

Ive used this same trap to nab countless fish. I did the same mod as well. I havent had to use my trap for quite some time now.

I had some monsters i had to catch at work and this is what i did.

I just so happened to have a peice of acrylic that is wide enough to fit the width of the tank. I chased the big fish to one side, slid the acrylic peice in place, removed a few rocks, and used a bucket or a real big net to grab em.
